mimi live!

Deals loves her Mimi- they talk often on Skype (D walks over to the computer, points at the Skype icon and asks for Mimi), where my mom provides a one-on-one storytime experience of singing, clapping, and hand motions.  I wondered if Deals understood that Mimi was a real person coming to visit her, or if she would think her favorite character  had come to life, like Elmo Live!  Three hours after her bedtime, Deals was still awake waiting for Mimi and Steve to arrive and when they did there was no confusion or apprehension ... just love as Deals gave out hugs and kisses and did a late-night happy dance on their bed.

While my Mom would have been happy staying at home reading to and playing with Deals all week, we ventured out as tourists instead, excited to show off Portland for Steve's first visit.  We spent as much time outside in the beautiful spring weather as we could: parks, food carts, picnic at the zoo, children's rock group concert, downtown jaunts to the library and Finnegans toy store, Multnomah Falls, the Columbia Gorge, the rhododendron garden, shopping at Hawthorne, and late-night s'mores around the campfire built in our backyard fire pit courtesy of my master fire builder hubby.
